Communication intern 06-07

I had the pleasure of working at In the Round as the communication intern from May 2006-2007. My internship at ITR was invaluable and one of the best experiences of my college career. I enthusiastically recommend any hardworking, ambitious student apply for an internship.  

Being a small, thriving company, ITR provides interns with personalized attention according to their abilities while also challenging and expanding their skills. When I began, I had enough writing and design experience to get me started, but looking back on my growth over the year, I am thoroughly proud of my achievements.

Working closely in a mentoring relationship provided me with a unique real world experience. ITR interns are not cast aside and assigned menial tasks or constantly hovered over. They are integrated into a team and immediately asked to work on real projects and provide input.  While always available and willing to answer questions, ITR employees also take their own time to discuss goals and teach skills in order to make sure interns get the most out of their experience.

The majority of my time was spent working with Aaron and Jackie for clients such as Canton First Friends Church, First Christian Church and Edgewood Community Center. While I worked mostly with print writing and graphic design, the media of projects overlapped and I was also taught basic web development work. The beauty of working at ITR is the opportunity for all employees to work as part of a community. By everyone using his or her own talents in writing, design, web development, systems installation, etc., a complete package is successfully achieved for clients. These sorts of interactions with different clients and media provided me with a very well-rounded experience.

Josh and Kate and the other employees truly care about interns gaining real world experience and succeeding even after their internship is complete. Being a small company, In the Round has the feeling of a family and interns are warmly welcomed as part of the group. In the relaxed work environment, it is easy to instantly feel at home. 

Working at In the Round has made me much more confident in my skills and provided me with the experience to make a smoother transition into the working world. Josh and Kate and the rest of the employees are wonderful people to work with and for.
